Frequently Asked Questions
How does motion detection work?
GuardKit uses your device's built-in motion sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope) to detect when your device is moved, rotated, or handled. During an active Guard Session, the app analyzes motion signals and identifies patterns such as movement spikes, pickup-like motion, sustained handling, or orientation changes. These are then summarized into a timeline of activity indicators for your review.
How does sound monitoring work?
Sound monitoring is an optional feature that you can enable in settings. When enabled, GuardKit monitors audio signal levels (such as changes in volume or intensity) to help detect unusual activity. Audio is analyzed in real-time on your device only. No audio is recorded, stored, or transmitted. When disabled, GuardKit does not access the microphone at all.
What data does GuardKit collect?
GuardKit does not collect personal information. All data is stored locally on your device. The app may process motion sensor data and optional audio signal level data (if enabled) on-device only. This data is used solely to provide the app's core functionality and is never transmitted to external servers. You can delete session data at any time from within the app.
Does GuardKit require an account or sign-up?
No. GuardKit does not require any account, sign-up, or personal information. You can start using the app immediately after installation. All processing happens on your device, and all data remains under your control.
How do Guard Sessions work?
Guard Sessions are periods when GuardKit actively monitors your device. You explicitly start a Guard Session when you want to monitor activity. During a session, the app analyzes motion signals and optionally audio activity levels. When you end a session, you can review a detailed timeline of detected events with timestamps and confidence levels.
How do I review my session history?
After ending a Guard Session, you can review the complete session log with event timelines, confidence levels, and detailed metadata. All sessions are stored locally on your device. You can delete individual sessions or all session data at any time from within the app.
Can GuardKit detect device unlock attempts?
No. GuardKit does not detect device unlock attempts, Face ID or Touch ID failures, monitor app usage, record conversations, identify people, or track users across apps or devices. The app only monitors motion and optional audio activity levels during active Guard Sessions.
